Black Studies Open University

“…study is what you do with other people. It’s talking and walking around with other people, working, dancing, suffering, some irreducible convergence of all three, held under the name of speculative practice.” Stefano Harney and Fred Moten

Join the Black Studies Collaboratory Abolition Democracy Fellows for our Spring 2023 Speaker Series, an experiment in Black Study. In this event series, the 2022-2023 Black Studies Collaboratory Abolition Democracy fellows, a group of activists, artists, and academics from a range of disciplines, will present work from their year of critical engagement and collaborative imagining at UC Berkeley. From hit making in Rwanda to never before seen archives of the Black Panther Party, from Black children’s literature to the constellation blackness, deafness, and art making, these panels, documentary screenings, art performances, and participatory conversations will attend to making sense of our histories in imaginative ways and envisioning alternative presents and futures. All events will be free and open to the public.

Participants can read alongside the series with the Black Studies Open University syllabus.
