Opening Keynote: Ochy Curiel

The Black Studies Collaboratory at UC Berkeley invites you to attend the opening keynote for the Global Black Feminisms Summer Lab. Ochy Curiel’s keynote, “From Identity Politics to a Non-Fragmented Analysis of Oppression,” will be held virtually at 1:00 PST today, June 28.
Ochy Curiel is a scholar-activist and singer born in the Dominican Republic. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from the National University of Colombia and is a long-time activist in the lesbian, anti-racist, autonomist and decolonial feminist movement. Her keynote address will put forward key elements of what she calls “decolonial antiracist feminism”, which she argues complicates identity politics by exposing its limits in the construction of a project of social liberation and transformation.
This event will be a webinar and is free and open to the public. It will be in Spanish with English interpretation.
The Global Black Feminisms Summer Lab was created as part of the Black Studies Collaboratory, a three-year project housed in Berkeley’s African American Studies department and made possible through a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s Just Futures Initiative.
